In early 2006 a small group of women led by Jan Nicolay and Loila Hunking, former NWPC-SD members, started looking into the possibility of re-chartering the organization.  NWPC-SD was an active group from the 1980’s into the early 21st century.  It dissolved then due to lack of interest.

With an increasingly conservative legislature, fewer progressive women legislators, and the abortion ban on the November 2006 ballot, these women started meeting trying to build a core group of interested members.  By May of 2007 there were 30 members who had paid their dues, the number needed to re-charter.  Officers were elected and the organization, National Women’s Political Caucus South Dakota was again a reality.

Membership in NWPC-SD is open to any individual, without regard to ethnicity, sex, national origin, age, disability, economic status, or sexual orientation, who supports the purposes and goals of the organization and who pays the annual dues.
